Originally part of the Light Red Line suburban railway project (Taling Chan – Chachoengsao section), it was later expedited as a special transportation initiative to directly support airport access.

Updated ARL Route & Stations (as of 2024):

The ARL operates at speeds of up to 160 km/h, running along a 28-kilometer elevated track parallel to the Eastern Railway Line. There are 8 stations currently in service:

    • Starting point of ARL

    • Connects to BTS Sukhumvit Line and Light Red Line (Bang Sue – Taling Chan)

  2. Ratchaprarop Station

    • Located near Pratunam

  3. Makkasan Station

    • Connects to MRT Phetchaburi Station

  4. Ramkhamhaeng Station

Future Developments

In the future, the Airport Rail Link (ARL) will undergo route expansion as part of the High-Speed Rail Linking Three Airports Project, which aims to connect Don Mueang Airport, Suvarnabhumi Airport, and U-Tapao Airport.

This high-speed rail project will integrate with the current ARL system, using a standard gauge track (1.435 meters). Two new segments will be added: one extending from Phaya Thai Station to Don Mueang Airport, and another from Lat Krabang Station to U-Tapao Airport, passing through Rayong and Pattaya. The entire route will span approximately 220 kilometers, with trains operating at a maximum speed of 250 km/h, allowing passengers to travel the full route in under 60 minutes.


Project Duration and Structure

The 50-year Public-Private Partnership (PPP) contract includes both construction and operation. The line will feature 9 high-speed rail stations:

  • Don Mueang

  • Bang Sue

  • Makkasan

  • Suvarnabhumi

  • Chachoengsao

  • Chonburi

  • Si Racha

  • Pattaya

  • U-Tapao

The railway will run through five provinces: Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, and Rayong.
